How To Get Your Garden Ready

Tip 1. Garden Clean Up

Time to blast away all the dirt which has built up over winter including moss and algae which has developed on patios and decking, hiring a pressure washer is a great way to help you get the job done. Check out our How To Use a Pressure Washer Video below.

But don’t stop there. A pressure washer on a low setting is also a great power tool for cleaning your garden furniture, fencing and barbecue.

Before you use a pressure washer remember you must wear the correct PPE. Eye protection, gloves, safety boots, and a dust mask are essential. All PPE can be purchased direct from Speedy.

Tip 2. Mow the Lawn

Is your lawn looking a bit overgrown and tired from those long winter months and in need of a little TLC? Is your lawnmower broke or you simply don’t have the storage space for power tools?

Don't worry, you can hire a lawnmower to cut your grass and get it looking glorious again, just in time to party this May Bank Holiday.

Speedy recommends the Makita PLM4631, 32.5kG a self-propelled petrol mulching lawnmower recommended for lawns of up to 1400m². Cutting heights of 20-75mm with 8 centralised stepping, equipped with a large 60-litre grass box to ensure you spend less time emptying grass cuttings.

Before you use a lawnmower it’s really important that you wear the correct PPE, safety boots and gloves are essential and we’d also recommend that you wear ear protection.

Tip 3. Add a Splash of Colour

If your fence looking a bit dull why not try giving your fence panels a top-up of paint to brighten it up, there are also plenty of other ways you can brighten up your outdoor space from planting bold annual flowers to magnificent hanging basket flower displays.

If you don't want to make any major changes to the garden décor try adding some colourful plant pots, water features and fountains or coloured outdoor cushions for your guests to relax on, solar lights will also make a pretty addition to the night garden.

Tip 4. Trim Hedges

If your hedges have grown and need trimming, hiring a petrol-powered long-reach hedge trimmer is a great way to cut through them and let the sun shine through again.

We recommend you should always check carefully for active bird nests prior to any cutting that no matter what time of the year it is.

Speedy recommends the Stihl HL94 C-E 600MM, 6.2KG long-reach 2-Stroke hedge trimmer designed for work on high hedges and close to the ground, it is a lightweight and adjustable ideal option for the garden.
